Music & Worship

Music is integral to worship. In response to God's Word, music helps us express praise, repent of our sins, and give thanks for the saving work of Jesus. It helps us pray, reminds us of God’s good promises, and even can help us memorize Scripture. Participation in the music ministry is, therefore, a joyful willingness to lead the congregation in these expressive responses! We are servants in God’s kingdom seeking to draw attention to Him: “For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake” (2 Corinthians 4:5).

SERVE IN COVENANT’S MUSIC MINISTRY

  • Covenant’s choir is a non-audition group of singers ranging from 8th grade and up. Whether you’ve sung in a choir before or this is your first rodeo, you’re invited to come! If you’re on the fence, there are two opportunities (link to choir schedule) that might help your decision:

Wednesday Nights. During the fall and spring semesters, the choir rehearses on Wednesdays from 6:15 - 7:15 pm in the Sanctuary. Want to see what kind of music we’re working on? Come sit in on a rehearsal!

Pop-Up Choir. A few Sundays per year, we offer pop-up choirs for anyone who wants to see what it’s like to lead with us! All you have to do is walk up a few minutes before the service (link to schedule). You’ll be handed a folder with music and placed in a section that best fits your vocal range. Not a great sight-reader? No problem! Just sing the melody!

If you’d like to join the choir, there are just a few easy commitments we ask of you:

    1. Prioritize Wednesday rehearsals. Everyone will miss an occasional rehearsal from time to time, but we ask each member to be present at least 75% of the time.

    2. Prioritize Sundays where the choir is singing a prepared piece (approx. once a month)

    3. Prioritize special events such as Easter (March or April) and Lessons & Carols (December).

  • Covenant’s Vocal Team and Band are a group of volunteers who are skilled at an instrument or in solo-vocal leadership. They serve in Sunday worship on a year-round, rotating basis, as well as in special events such as our bi-annual Hymn Sing, Lessons & Carols or mid-week Bible studies. Volunteers for these teams have usually reached at least high school age, but we invite anyone to audition who can play or sing with the proper skill and maturity. While the audition process is thorough, it is very friendly!

  • Worshiping the Lord through music is a vital part of our children’s discipleship. During Sunday children’s worship and our Wednesday night program, our children (ages 3 – 5th grade) learn the songs of the faith, and they also prepare songs to share with the congregation at select times of the year (Lessons & Carols and Spring Missions Festival). Our aim is for our children to develop a love for singing as an expression of worship and, in some cases, desire to learn how to lead it as well. If you would like to learn more about our children’s music program or would be interested in volunteering, contact Casey O’Dell: codell@covpres.com

  • “Students leading students” is a key vision for our youth worship team. With the support of youth ministry staff and other adult volunteers, students on this team learn how to lead congregational singing using their vocal and instrumental abilities. Consequently, it serves as a natural training ground for honing their skills to lead in larger contexts. If you have a high school student who would like to learn more about serving with the youth worship team, or if you’re an adult who would like to assist, contact Sarah South: ssouth@covpres.com

  • Covenant’s technology ministry works behind the scenes with our audio, video, and lighting systems, aiming to provide a smooth, non-distracting worship experience for all. While there are many events at Covenant requiring tech assistance, the best way to get plugged in starts with our weekly Sunday worship services. Previous experience is not required, only a willingness to learn and grow! If you are interested in technology, audio or video production, or just want to know what all those buttons do, e-mail Tyler Cuidon: tcuidon@covpres.com
