What is Feast Not Famine? Feast Not Famine is our Women’s Ministry holiday event.

Why is it called Feast Not Famine? We take this opportunity to step back from the planning, the logistics and the organization of Thanksgiving and Christmas to consider what it means to “feast” in the goodness of the Lord. As women we frequently spend a lot of energy and time working out how to make holidays with our families perfect. We have ideas of what we want to feed everyone, how we are going to spend time together, and we have expectations of special moments and making life-long memories.

What usually happens? Someone gets sick. Someone has suddenly decided to become a vegetarian or gluten free. Somebody else has a work emergency that keeps them busy. Someone is just in a rotten mood. The toilet backs up. The refrigerator goes out. You name it – it happens. Our joy tends to be drained when our expectations are not met. And then we experience the “famine” of unmet expectations. Why are we so set on “our picture” coming to fruition? Why can we not trust God? Why do we think that our heavenly Father who loves us is holding out on us when our Christmas dinner doesn’t look like a Norman Rockwell painting? God is at work! Even in the disasters, the missteps, and the difficult relationships. How can we re-frame our focus so that our eyes are on our Savior? How can we taste and see the goodness of the Lord in the chaos of Advent? Join us as Abbey Wedgeworth uses Psalm 139 to help us see how the attributes of God bring us comfort when we feel out of control, when our plans go awry, and when we are disappointed in our own responses.

What does the night look like? The evening will begin at 5:00 in our Fellowship Hall with a Market and heavy hors d’oeuvres. You may get some shopping take care of (follow us on Instagram (@covpreswomen) to learn more about the vendors who will be joining us), join us for live demonstrations of decorating a mantel and creating an Advent wreath. At 6:45 we will make our way to the Sanctuary and enjoy singing together and then hear from Abbey.

Who can come to this event? Please pray about inviting someone to come with you: believers, non-believers, seekers, or someone who may need extra encouragement as they head into the holidays. We would love to pack out this night!

Also, if you or someone you know have something that you would like to sell at the Market, please reach out to Rosemary Alexander, (rosemary.n.alexander@gmail.com) or Emily Heide (evburdick@hotmail.com).
