Cherubs, our youngest club, is for our early music lovers who will begin learning to associate music with worship.
This club is for children from four years old through kindergarten. Through light-hearted marches and activities requiring high levels of body movement and simple percussion instruments, the children will learn to recognize steady beat and basic rhythms. Fun voice exercises will expand the children’s singing range, assist them in finding their true singing voice, and teach pitch recognition to the extent that the children can distinguish between high and low sounds. The club will learn to recognize very basic music symbols such as the quarter note, the music staff, and clef signs. The children will be introduced to hymns and as a group will explore their meaning. At least four hymns will be memorized during the year. The children will also learn a number of praise songs. Carefully selected games will stimulate awareness and enthusiasm for music. Every effort will be made to reinforce the Biblical truth that music is a special gift from God and is an important part of life. Cherubs will sing in three or four services each year.
Cherubs meet in E306 and E308 from 5 to 6 pm every Wednesday night beginning August 19.
